Endure - By: Kayla Hickey

They say they're sorry all of it happened,

That they couldn’t imagine,

You just have to keep going they say,

What they’re really saying is endure,

Wake up every day,

With the life drained out of you,

Go around draining the life out of others to make yourself feel,

Come home at the end of the day,

To be alone,

With the ghosts of the people that should have loved you,

Dwell in the personalized hell your mind makes for you,

Try to remember the happy moments but your memory was taken from you,

Somebody robbed a child,

And doomed their future,

That child will never actually live,

Only just barely survive

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.:

This poem is about your peers, giving you false hope and telling you to be strong. When in reality, it is trauma. You cannot just magically overcome it one day, you have to endure and endure until you eventually heal enough to live, not thrive, just live

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.:

I write to vent, poetry is the only way I can get my thoughts out. I was so frustrated by people telling me to just be strong, when it's not that simple.

Why did you choose to write this poem?:

I don't want people to feel as alone as I do, and if by sharing how I feel and my experience in life; I can help another person. Then that is all I need
